Massage
is the art of manipulating the tissues of the body. This
art has always existed.
As long ago as 3000BC massage was used as a therapy in the
Far East, making it one of the oldest treatments used by
humans.
In the fifth century BC in ancient Greece, Hippocrates recommended
that to maintain health, a massage using oils should be
taken daily after a perfumed bath. Greek physicians were
well used to treating people who suffered from pain and
stiffness in joints. The relaxation and healing powers of
massage have been well documented over the past 5,000 years.
Massage today has many of the aspects that were used in
ancient times.
The Irish Health Culture Association developed Ki massage
in Ireland and in addition to the use of massage techniques
Ki is also used. Ki means Life Force or energy. It is the
basic energy that keeps us alive. We all have days when
the level of this life force in us flows well, we are full
of energy, happy and able to cope with any challenges that
come our way. At other times we may be run down and exhausted,
feeling negative and with little energy to spare.
Modern
day stresses can press down or diminish the flow of this
energy within us. Ki Massage is designed to break down this
resistance, to take the stress out of every set of muscles
in turn so that the body becomes fluid and the energy is
capable of flowing freely once more. This is what makes
Ki massage unique from other types of massage
